Black Panthers member and chairman Bobby Seale's autobiography, written during his imprisonment, is titled: Seize The Time. In the series Seize The Time (Selected Pages), selected pages of the book has been photographed and manipulated only to reveal the words referring to firearms. The Black Panthers declared their right to carry arms in self-defense and in defense of their community, against government forces. The weapons were meant as mere display, their presence upholding a power-balance between the movements inside the community and the potentially threatening outside forces. In Seize The Time (Selected Pages), the literature is boiled down to the bare tools of this power play - the extract only showing the potential of means without displaying either source or cause.
