In the guise of the 1931 Hollywood actor Edward van Sloan introducing the Horror film Frankenstein, an actor enters the stage and warns us of the horrors of the following story of Communism. Subsequently we are presented with the simple symbol of the red star. Stages reworks the experience of political symbols as tokens of past dread and horror. The red star becomes a transmutational projection surface enabling a meditation on the quality and potentials of an ism, that moves beyond political mutations into the structural and phenomenological.
